On Tuesday, 15 January 2019, the Alternate Minister of National Defence, Panagiotis Rigas, in a discussion on ANT1 TV show "Kalimera Ellada" to the journalist Giorgos Papadakis, made the following statements:
On the matter of the Vote of Confidence:
SYRIZA and the Left never played dirty. They never engaged in shady dealings. The country's Prime Minister and Leader of SYRIZA and the entire party took risks, without regard to political cost, concerned exclusively with social cohesion and the interest of society. That's what we did in 2015. The Vote of Confidence is a clear solution.
Previously, Mr. Mitsotakis, beyond the elections, beyond the fact that he constantly made bets he lost time and again, requested a Vote of Confidence. That's what he said to the Prime Minister. Well, there it is! Did he propose a Vote of No Confidence? New Democracy should not look for shady practices. So, in his opinion, those who will undertake the responsibility and use their status as MPs to take a clear position to support the government are traitors and corrupt, but not Ms. Markou, Mr. Theoharis, and Mr. Fotilas who were elected with another party and left to join New Democracy? I understand the frenzy the opposition is in, but criticism can not be selective.
I would like to say something about Mr. Danellis, because a lot has been said by people who don't know. He was in the Coalition of the Left party, he has always been a deeply left politician, he has held the same opinion regarding the Prespes Agreement since 1992.
If we examine the essence of the Agreement, New Democracy and KINAL are at an impasse. New Democracy is in trouble, it adopted the rationale and practices of the far right and thinks that, through a dangerous view about foreign policy, it can win the election. It is to the benefit of the Balkans and our country to have peaceful coexistence in the region, to eliminate problems, to reduce nationalism, and achieve economic growth to the benefit of the peoples.
On the SYRIZA – Independent Greeks coalition:
It is a case study of how coalitions should be. We decided to put an end to the crisis. We decided to put an end to corruption and the corrupt practices of the past. We decided to free the people from the extreme policies and destruction brought by the MoU regime. We have had our differences with the Independent Greeks. I never tried to hide them, neither as Secretary of SYRIZA, nor at the Ministry. We had great ideological differences, and yet we made it. It was a case study on the protection of society.
