MARIA KOLLIA TSAROUCHA
DEPUTY MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENCE
Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha was born in Serres in 1958. Graduated Aristotle University of Thessaloniki’s Law School and worked as a lawyer. She married Mr. Christos Tsarouchas and has a son and a daughter. She was member of women division of New Democracy party from 1983 to 2012. She was also member of the Central Committee of the same party and Head of its Education and Religious Affairs division. Later, from 2010 to 2012 she served as secretary of Social Cohesion and Solidarity committee for New Democracy.
In 2000 Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha was elected as the first female MP of Serres with New Democracy party. She was re-elected for the same position in 2004, 2007, 2009.
As a MP, she became Chairman of the Special Permanent Commission on Equality, Youth and Human Rights and of the Standing Committee on Educational Affairs of Hellenic Parliament. She has also been member of the Permanent Foreign and Defense committee, as well as of Public Administration and Justice committee. In February 2010, she was a member of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee investigating “Siemens” case.
Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha became Chairman of the Friendship Intergroup of Greece and Belgium Parliaments, member of the Friendship Intergroup of Greece and Russia Parliaments and member of the Friendship Intergroup of Greece and Great Britain Parliaments.
In February 2012, following her refusal to upvote the second Loan Agreement between Greece and European Union (Memorandum), she was dismissed from New Democracy parliamentary group and was deleted as member of New Democracy party. She then joined with Independent Greeks party, assuming the role of their parliamentary representative. On May 18, 2012, she was elected with 185 votes in her favor, as Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament.
During National Elections of 2012 she participated in the Independent Greeks ballot list for Serres and was elected as MP. In June 17 2012 election, Independent Greeks placed her as head on their Serres ballot list and was upvoted again.
On June 2012 Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha was re-elected as Vice-Chairman of the Hellenic Parliament with 225 votes.
In January 2015 elections was re-elected as a MP of Serres with Independent Greeks party and was appointed as a Deputy Minister of Interior and for Administrative Reconstruction for Macedonia and Thrace.
In September 2015 elections, Independent Greeks placed her once more as head of their ballot list, and she was re-elected as member of the Hellenic Parliament.
After governmental reform of 2016, Ms Kollia-Tsaroucha was appointed as Deputy Minister of Interior for Macedonia and Thrace. She maintained this governmental position until August 2018.
After the governmental reform of August 2018, she assumed duties of Deputy Minister of National Defense.
