The Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, will open the pavilion of the Armed Forces at the 84th Thessaloniki International Fair on Saturday, 7 September, at 13:00.
The visitors of Pavilion 1 at this year's 84th Thessaloniki International Fair will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the new – dynamic profile of the Armed Forces in the era of the internet, extroversion, rapid reaction, and state-of-the-art technologies.
The Ministry of National Defence participates in the country's largest international fair with a new perception and aim, promoting extroversion. For the first time, there will be nine information workshops in a special area in the pavilion for Officers and the public on subjects related to the multifaceted activity of the Armed Forces.
More specifically, on Sunday, 8 September, at 12:00, there will be a workshop, in cooperation with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, on the subject "Universities – Industry – Defence: Synergies and opportunities at national and European level".
The keynote speaker will be the Vice Rector for Research and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Associate Professor at the School of Spatial Planning and Development, Mr. Stratos Stylianidis. Lectures will also be given by the Director for Defence Investment & Technological Research at the Ministry of National Defence, Brigadier General (HAF) Petros Kyriafinis, the President of the Hellenic Aerospace Security & Defence Industries Group, Mr. Evangelos Veronikiatis, the President of the Hellenic Manufacturers of Defence Material Association, Mr. Anastasios Rozolis, and Auth Professor, Mr. Kyriakos Yakinthos, Mechanical Engineer.
On Monday, 9 September, at 16:30, there will be a Press Conference for the Armed Forces Social Contribution Year 2019 declared by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff. The Director of HNDGS/B1, Commodore Dimitrios Milas, will brief the media representatives of on all social contribution actions, as well as on the recognition of a camp.
"Leadership & Self-Improvement Practices" is the title of the workshop that will take place on Tuesday, 10 September, at 16:30. The aim of this workshop is to present modern personnel evaluation and human resources management methods at the a) command – staff level and b) at the operational level. The speakers will be Mr. Nikolaos Podas, Entrepreneurship & Innovation Consultant, MBA graduate from the University of Macedonia, and Infantry Colonel Nikolaos Gonis.
The Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts at the University of Macedonia, Mr. Ilias Kouskouvelis, and the veteran journalist, Mr. Pantelis Savidis, will be the main speakers of the workshop: "Armed Forces and International Relations", which will take place on Wednesday, 11 September, at 17:00. The workshop will examine matters of Military Cooperation, Joint Operations, International Presence of the Hellenic Armed Forces in Peacekeeping Missions.
The workshop of Thursday, 12 September, is dedicated to the relationship of the social media and the mass media with the Armed Forces. The journalist, Mr. Pantelis Savidis, and the journalist, Mr. Nikos Ladianos, will discuss matters of information reception, management, and validation. They will also explain how the Press can positively or negatively influence the public by promoting or withholding information. The event starts at 16:30.
A different dimension of crisis management will be presented on Friday, 13 September, by the Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts at the University of Macedonia, Mr. Ilias Kouskouvelis, and the journalist, Mr. Sotirios Kyriakidis.
Saturday, 14 September, is dedicated to matters of career in the Armed Forces, recruitment and information on military service, as well as the environmental actions in progress for the protection of the environment, sustainability, and recycling. In particular:
At 11:00, the Director of HNDGS/B2, Brigadier General Konstantinos Evgenios, will inform those interested for admission to Officer and NCO academies and schools on the requirements, preparation, and planning of their career in the Armed Forces.
The Director of the Recruitment Service of Thessaloniki, Colonel (Leg) Vasilios Tsinaforniotis, will inform at 13:00 parents and students on military service, reporting for enlistment, and military life and training.
Finally, at 17:00, the Section Chief of HNDGS/C2/4, Captain Sarantis Giannoutsos HN, will present the framework of environmental initiatives and actions in progress in the Armed Forces. The presentation will include matters related to recycling, organic and solid waste sorting, energy saving, and the adoption of environmental technologies.
The pavilion of the Armed Forces
The presence of he Minister of National Defence at the 84th Thessaloniki International Fair will be dedicated to the multifaceted social contribution of the Armed Forces. With the motto "Together, Always", Armed Forces Officers will welcome the public from 7 to 15 September at the Pavilion of the Armed Forces to give them a taste of their operational actions. The visitors will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the everyday work and the combat readiness of the Armed Forces, while, through virtual reality, they will be able to feel for a while like fighter and helicopter pilots, make a freefall parachute jump, or conduct fires with a tank. At the same time, the public will have the opportunity to be informed on the new methods and innovative tools used for the training of Armed Forces Officers.
At the Fair, young and older visitors will have the opportunity to witness an impressive explosives disposal demonstration by the Land Minefield Clearance Battalion using a special trained dog and a robotic device, look at the impressive models of an F-16 and a Mirage-2000 aircraft, experience dangerous flights on fighter and firefighting aircraft, become acquainted with the procedures in case of sinking, fire, or water entry on a warship, and participate in a Search and Rescue operation.
Outdoors, the visitors will have the opportunity to see the Kiowa helicopter, taste fresh bread from the Hellenic Army's field bakery, while our young friends of the Special Forces can enjoy a children's combat course, a climbing – rappelling tower, and face painting.
During the 84th TIF, a mobile studio of the successful Armed Forces show "With Virtue and Boldness" will be at the Fair for a live presentation of all the exhibits in the Pavilion of the Ministry of National Defence.
