Brigadier General Oikonomou Theodoros
Alternate General Director
On March 15th 2018, Brigadier General Oikonomou Theodoros was appointed Alternate Director-General of National Defence Policy and International Relations General Directorate at the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, while retaining the duties assigned to him on October 10, 2014 as Director of the National Defence Policy Directorate (NDPD).
He was born in Athens in 1967.
He entered the Hellenic Military Academy in 1984 and graduated in 1988, as second-lieutenant of the infantry corps.
He has completed his studies and graduated with success also from : Various schools of basic and advanced infantry training The advanced training infantry school of the USA. The Army Staff College The Joint Staff College The Army War College The National Defence College. He holds a Master (MA) in “Applied Strategy and International Security” – University of Plymouth, U.K.
As subordinate officer he served as a platoon commander, as a company commander and as staff in mechanized infantry units.
He served as an officer in the 33rd Mechanized Brigade and in the Hellenic Army General Staff Directorate of Permanent Military Personnel (GES/DIMSPRO).
He served twice in the Hellenic Contingent in Kosovo, as a company commander and a civil-military cooperation coordinating officer (CIMIC) and as Unit Executive Officer (2000- 2001 and 2003-2004).
He served as Military Attaché in the Hellenic Embassy in Paris for three years (2008-2011).
He served as Unit Commander in the 617th Mechanized Infantry Battalion at Plati location in Evros district (2011-2012).
He served as Head of the National Defence Policy and Strategic Studies Department in the National Defence Policy Directorate (DIPEA) of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations (2012-2014) and as Director of the National Defence Policy Directorate (2014-2018).
He has been awarded all the military medals and decorations of his rank (national and international).
He has received by the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff and the military leadership two honorable citations for his excellence at the Infantry Training School of the USA and his operational action in Kosovo.
He speaks the English language.
He is married and has two children.
