• He was born in Salamis in 1955. He was admitted in the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1973, he graduated in 1977 and was commissioned as Ensign.

• He has attended all the respective Hellenic Navy schools and he is a graduate of the Supreme War College. He attended post-graduate studies at the Naval Postgraduate School of Monterey-USA, acquiring a Master of Science in Computer Systems. He has been trained in high technology electronic communications special systems in the Netherlands and he was the leader of the Hellenic Navy’s programmes on the MEKO frigates’ electronic systems’ development and enhancement in California-USA.

• He is fluent in English.

He has served in:

• Hellenic Navy Destroyers and Frigates, as Staff Officer in the Hellenic Navy Center of Automated Combat Systems (CACS), as well as in Staff posts at the COMHELFLEET and the Hellenic Navy General Staff.

• He has served as captain at the torpedo boat “KONIDIS” (from 1990 to 1991) and for three years (from 1997 to 2000) to the Frigate KOUNTOURIOTIS, he was the captain of which when she was transferred from the Netherlands.

• He has served as Commander of the 2^nd Missile Torpedo Boat Squadron and the 2^nd Frigate Squadron.

In 2000 he was assigned first Greek Defence Attaché at The Hague, Netherlands and in 2004, during the Olympic Games of Athens, he was assigned Director of the Operations and Security – Defence Planning and Strategy Branch of the Hellenic Navy General Staff.

Since May 2006, when he was promoted to Rear Admiral, he assumed the post of Commander of the Hellenic Naval Academy and, subsequently, of Director of the Communications-Technology Branch of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.

At the rank of Vice Admiral, since 2008, he was A’ Deputy Chief/Headquarters at the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, for two years.

On February 17 2010, by relative decision of the Governmental Council on Foreign Policy and National Defence, he was assigned Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff.

He has been awarded with all the decorations, medals and commendations anticipated for Officers at the rank and post of Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff.

He is married to Eleni Tassiopoulou; the couple has a son, named Alexandros.
