On Wednesday 10 October 2018, the Alternate Minister of National Defence Panagiotis Rigas, accompanied by the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff Lieutenant General Christos Christodoulou, attended the oath-taking ceremony of the new recruits of the Ε΄ 2018 Training Series, at the 124 Basic Training Wing in Tripoli.
The Commander of the Hellenic Air Training Command Major General Lamprakis Dimitriou, delegations from the Services of the Armed and Security Forces, local political and religious Authorities, as well as relatives and friends of the new recruits also attended the ceremony.
The Alternate Minister addressed the new aircraftmen and called them to fulfill the expectations and the trust demonstrated by the whole of the Greek people and urged them to demonstrate interest and responsibility and utilise what is offered to them, in order to acquire capabilities which will help them not only during their military service, but also later in their lives as members of society.
He furthermore assured them that the political and military leadership of the Ministry of National Defence: “are aware of the reality, the hardships and problems you face. That is why we give particular emphasis to the human aspect which is determinative for the preservation of battle-worthy troops characterised by high morale”.
Addressing the parents he underlined that they should be proud of their children who will dedicate a great part of their lives to the country’s service. “Your children are now our children too. You can be certain that we will take care of them so that they will be absolutely safe during their service”.
And he went on: “The Armed Forces are currently a part of the Greek people and they actively and effectively participate in the effort of our country’s reconstitution. Despite the major Armed Forces budget cuts, the members’ morale hasn’t diminished, neither has the combativeness of our defence system been degraded. Mainly focused on securing our national defence and security, the political and military leadership promote essential changes to the Ministry of National Defence, aiming to rationalise the financial management, to achieve optimal utilisation of personnel and assets and to solve perennial problems”.
