The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, and the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, participated on Wednesday September 9th 2020 in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Armament Programs and Contracts that was held at the Senate Room of the Hellenic Parliament.

 

The Chief HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief HAGS Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis, the Chief HNGS Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis and the Deputy Chief HAFGS Major General Nikolaos Retsas also attended the meeting.

 

The Minister and the Deputy Minister of National Defence informed the members of the Committee on the following matters within their competence:

 

  1. Implementing sub-programme “Upgrading the Hellenic Navy’s torpedoes – Procurement, upgrading and follow-on support of Greek Submarine torpedoes”;

  2. Implementing sub-programme “Control / Maintenance of RAM Guided Missile Weapon System”;

  3. Opinion on the implementation of the sub-programme “Procurement of CADs – PADs Firing Mechanisms”;

  4. Opinion on the implementation of the sub-programme “Extending the Calendar Life Limits of the Air Force’s SCALP EG Operational Missiles”.

 

It should be noted that the above important sub-programmes relate to the upgrading of firepower, as well as the maintenance of the Armed Forces tactical units’ ability to self-defend. The continuous improvement, upgrading of the operational effectiveness and the strengthening of the Armed Forces in general remains the paramount consideration and top responsibility for the Political Leadership of the Ministry of National Defence.
