The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos completed his official visit to Cyprus, where he represented Greece at the celebrations for the 59th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Cyprus.
The Minister of National Defence went to the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, where he was received by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades. The two men discussed matters of bilateral defence cooperation and then the two men laid wreaths at the Resistance Fighters Memorial and the statue of Archbishop Makarios III and visited the Imprisoned Graves.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos held talks with his Cypriot counterpart, Mr. Savvas Angelides, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General (HAF) Christos Christodoulou, and the Chief of Cypriot National Guard General Staff, Lieutenant General Ilias Leontaris. During their meeting, the two Ministers discussed the security and stability challenges in the East Mediterranean.
The Minister of National Defence invited the Cypriot Defence Minister to Athens on 5 November 2019 for the 3rd Trilateral Meeting of the Defence Ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt. Mr. Panagiotopoulos also invited Mr. Angelides to the Joint Exercise "Medusa 9", which will take place on 6 November with forces of all three nations.
