On Monday, 10 June 2019, the Minister of National Defence Evangelos Apostolakis, within the framework of the commemorative events for the 218 Hero-Martyrs of Distomo, attended as a representative of the Government memorial services at the Church of Aghios Nikolaos in Distomo and then at the Mausoleum, where he laid a wreath.
The events were also attended by the Chief of Hellenic Tactical Air Force, Lieutenant General (HAF) Georgios Blioumis.
This was the statement made by the Minister of National Defence:
“We are here today to honour the memory and to commemorate the sacrifice of the people of Distomo, who were executed by occupation troops. They are always in our mind. They were and still are a symbol, together with the sacrifices of other fellow citizens at the time, to remind us and to keep us alive and feeling that we must protect, as is our duty and obligation, this place, but above all that we must protect the principles and values.
