The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos met today with the US Secretary of State Mr. Μichael Pompeo at the Ministry of National Defence, within the framework of the latter's official visit to Greece.
The meeting confirmed the will of Greece and the US to further expand their strategic cooperation in the area of Defence and Security, which greatly contributes to the security of both countries. At the same time, the two men stressed the will to enhance bilateral cooperation to promote peace and stability in the East Mediterranean, as well as to effectively deal with common challenges and threats in the broader region.
They also discussed the prospects and opportunities created by the updated Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) for deeper bilateral relations both in the Defence, as well as in the Defence – Technical area, focusing in particular on the role and growth prospects of the Hellenic Defence Industry, as well as on US investments in infrastructure and equipment, with the ultimate goal of reaping benefits for national economy.
Finally, the Minister of National Defence mentioned in particular our country's initiatives for the development of trilateral regional defence cooperation schemes with countries of the region in order to achieve security, stability, and prosperity for the countries in the region.
