On Friday, 31 January 2020, the Minister of National Defence Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, held a meeting with General Tod Wolters, Supreme Allied Commander, Europe (SACEUR), in the context of his visit to Athens. Afterwards, General Wolters had his first official contact with the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros.
Discussions involved, among other things, the security developments and challenges in NATO’s South Wing. Furthermore, current issues regarding the Alliance’s Defence and Deterrence were discussed, which will become the subject of deliberations in the impending NATO Defence Ministers Summit, on the 12 and 13 February 2020 in Brussels, and Greece’s contribution was pointed out regarding security and stability in the wider region.
During these meetings, the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe thanked Greece for its important contribution in NATO and discussed the perspective to continue developing based on the existing powerful relations. He described our country as a strong and committed Ally in the North Atlantic Treaty, an ally who is instrumental in achieving the common security.
