The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos, accompanied by the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, visited the border outposts of Niki, Lemos, Krystallopigi, Grammos and Dipotamia. He will also visit the outpost of Molyvdoskepasto.
During his visit to the Niki outpost, the Minister of National Defence made the following statement:
“Today, along with the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, we began a tour which will be concluded at Christmas, throughout the border outposts. We began from here, the historic Niki outpost, where conscripts, permanent personnel and members of the National Guard, along with the local authorities, had the opportunity to exchange wishes with us.
We are proud of our officers, NCOs, soldiers and members of the National Guard, who have proven that the country’s Armed Forces, although having gone through difficult personal problems due to crisis, are still standing, with high morale, decisiveness and professionalism, enhancing our country’s geopolitical position.
Thanks to the enhancement of our country’s geopolitical position, we are leaving the crisis behind us. Greece has set a course for a new day where young children will have the capability to live in prosperity and avoid the problems of the financial crisis, which our generations had to face.
Here on the borders with FYROM, Greece wants to live in peace and our neighbors will have to comprehend that it is in their best interest to have friendly relations with our country.
But at the same time they will have to understand that as long as they provoke, as long as they maintain their irredentist claims, Greece will keep denying them access to Europe and the West. They will have to comprehend that there is only one Macedonia and that Macedonia is Greek. That will secure them the access they yearn for, so that they can move towards the future and prosperity”.
