The Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, visited today, this 19th day of June of 2020, the 401 Army General Hospital of Athens, where he inaugurated the new rooms of the 6A Care Unit. The Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, the Chief HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros and the Chief HAGS Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis also attended the ceremony.
Extensive infrastructure modernization works have been carried out in the new Hospital Wing and the following spaces have been created: a room for people with disabilities, two double rooms and five single rooms. Each patient room is fully equipped with a sanitary facility, a refrigerator, a TV and a desk. Furthermore, sanitary facilities for visitors and staff areas have been created. The project was completed by exclusive donation of “Aegeas” Non-Profit Civil Company.
The Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, made the following statement:
“Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to thank you warmly for your presence at this special event for the Ministry of National Defence and the Hellenic Army General Staff in particular, the facilities of the 401 Army General Hospital of Athens, at the inauguration of the new care unit.
Our Country is experiencing a truly harsh reality; we have gone through a critical period, but we have effectively dealt with the Covid-19 attack during this period. We have now gone to the next stage: the stage of a gradual easing of measures and the difficult but smooth return to new routine, having always in mind – and we should never forget that – that the risk has not been eliminated. Therefore, efforts are continuing.
In this context, it is perfectly conceivable that the safeguarding of Public Health is important. Therefore, the Ministry of National Defence, giving special consideration to the needs of its personnel, has set the target of and has started working towards renovating the overburdened and worn buildings and equipment of Army Health Units. And we are pleased to note that this does not only take place thanks to our powers, but also thanks to the kind and discrete – it usually is – offer of prominent Greeks.
So, today, having the personnel, its welfare and the ensuring of the best service delivery in the field of Health as a key pillar, we are inaugurating the complete transformation and reconstruction of the area of the former Officers’ Restaurant on the 6th floor of 401 Army General Hospital of Athens into clinic rooms by exclusive donation of Mr. Athanasios Martinos.
Private economy and entrepreneurship is the main driving force for wealth generation. Apart from that, it is for the person who has acquired the wealth to dispose the surplus property in actions that support directly society and mainly, its more vulnerable and weakest layers. Of course, someone’s personality has to do with characteristics, such as the unselfish willingness to offer, charity, genuine patriotism, even discreteness of the offeror, because he just wants to offer and not to offer because such offer will be promoted.
And this applies specifically to the case of the very strong presence of Martinos family in the charity work for the Country. You are doing God’s work and for that reason honestly, Mr. and Mrs. Martinos, you have the gratitude of all of us and especially the gratitude of the Armed Forces, on behalf of which I am addressing you today.
Thank you very much”.
