“Today I went to the US Department of Defence, in the Pentagon, where I met the acting Secretary of Defence Mr Shanahan. We had a constructive conversation and today’s scheduled meeting confirms the strategic cooperation between Greece and the United States of America.
Obviously, no particular issues for the future were discussed, nor were any commitments made, that being the work of the Government which will take office after the national elections.
So, during the talks I had with my counterpart, we mentioned the great progress of the recent major defence cooperation between Greece and the USA.
Our relations, strategic and otherwise, are exceptional.
Of course, I stated our concerns and our views on all issues, as I previously did with all of my interlocutors, the Deputy Secretary of State Mr Sullivan and the Senators Menendez, Risch and Reed.
So I consider this trip to be extremely constructive, since I had the opportunity to promote our national views and convey to our allies our positions on our region’s developments. We gave a vivid picture of the current situation and we discussed various issues and resolution proposals”.
