Today, Wednesday 21 April 2021, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis visited Limnos, in the context of the actions implemented by the Ministry of National Defence for maintaining the historic memory of the Australian & New Zealand Army Corp (ANZAC) which participated in the Gallipoli Campaign during World War I.
He laid a wreath during the memorial service in honour of those fallen, at the Moudros Commonwealth Cemetery. The memorial service was officiated by Limnos and Agios Efstratios Metropolitan Mr. Ierotheos C’, and was attended by the Ambassador of Australia to Greece Mr. Arthur Spyrou, the Regional Governor of Northern Aegean Mr. Konstantinos Moutzouris, the Provincial Governor of Limnos Mr. Aggelos Vlattas – Lambrinos, and the Mayor of Limnos Mr. Dimitris Marinakis.
At the Headquarters of the 88 Military Command he met with the new Commander Brigadier General Theodoros Athanasopoulos and the personnel.
Then he visited the 88 Medium Tank Battalion, where a memorial service was held in honour of the young recruit who was found dead in his barracks last Saturday.
