Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis attends commemorative celebrations for the Spetses Naval Battle

On Sunday 14 September 2025, on Spetses, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis attended the commemorative celebrations for the naval battle which was named after the island.

The celebrations included a Doxology in the Holy Metropolitan Church of St Nicholas, a memorial service and laying of wreaths on the memorial to the fallen, and casting of wreaths at sea (Ntapia Harbour), in the presence of religious, political, and local authorities.

A particular honour for this year’s celebrations was the exhibition of the reliquary with the remains of Laskarina Bouboulina, through the initiative of the “Year of Bouboulina” and the marking of the 200th anniversary of her death, as well as the exhibition of the urn which contains the heart of Admiral Andreas Miaoulis.

The celebrations were attended by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Hydra, Spetses, and Aegina, Mr Ephraim, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Konstantinos Katsafados, the MP for the Piraeus A Sector and Islands Constituency Nikolaos Vlachakos, as representative of the Speaker of the Parliament, the Chief/HNGS Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN, as representative of the Chief/HNDGS, Panagiotis Psychogyios as representative of the Leader of PASOK-Movement for Change, and other representatives.
