A wide meeting of the engaged competent Ministries and Agencies of Greece and Cyprus on issues of Missing Persons from the Turkish invasion of 1974, was chaired by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias on Monday 26 September 2022, at the Ministry of National Defence.
The following individuals participated in the meeting: the Presidential Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Fotis Fotiou, the Chief of HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros, the Ambassador of Cyprus in Greece Mr Kyriakos Kenevezos, the Director of the Cyprus Α2 Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece Minister Plenipotentiary A΄ Ms Despina Lourbakou, the Director of the Directorate of the Cyprus Question and Turkey of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Mr Spyros Attas, the Official of the Directorate of the Cyprus Question and Turkey of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ms Eleni Tziortzi and senior members of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence of Greece and Cyprus.
Furthermore, there were representatives of the Greco-Cypriot Community in the Missing Persons Investigation Committee, Staff Officers of the competent Directorates of the Ministries of Defence of Greece and Cyprus and of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, as well as the Presidents of the Pan-Hellenic Committee of Parents and Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons of the Cyprus Tragedy Ms Maria Kalbourtzi and of the Pan-Cypriot Organisation of Undeclared Detained and Missing Persons Relatives Mr Nikos Sergidis.
The participants, through a productive conversation, affirmed the everlastingly expressed volition of the two sister countries, submitting new proposals for approach, evaluation of clues and overcoming of obstacles, jointly proposing timetables, stressing that Greece and Cyprus have a historical and moral obligation, towards the heroes and their families, to resolve once and for all this particularly essential and sensitive matter.
