After the relevant instructions of the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias towards the General Staffs and in continuation of the rationalisation of the number of Armed Forces personnel within the framework of the “Agenda 2030”, all Armed Forces Officers (former NCOs) who have completed 35 years of active duty service and maintain total pension rights, which are not violated, were deemed as not remaining on active duty by the Selection Boards responsible.
With this development, a paradoxical system in which personnel who had not been promoted were being rewarded for staying on active duty by manning non-established posts is put out of effect. In the meantime, the unfairness towards personnel who retired is annulled.
The abolishing of the particular practice contributes to the rational allocation of resources and personnel, as well as allows for the setting of the issue of Armed Forces personnel wages on new foundations. It is rather characteristic, that in the period from 2020 – 2025, the annual wage costs of Officers serving in non-established posts exceeded 157 million Euros.
