The Ministry of National Defence, responding to requests submitted by the apposite agents, allocated on August 19 2012 to the services of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, to assist the combating of the fire on the Island of Chios, land force, aerial means and materiel, as follows:

Aerial Means

• 7 CL-415
• 2 CL-215
• 2 CH-47 (Chinook) Helo
• 1 C-130 to transport from Athens 54 qualified military personnel, appertaining to the plan “Defkalion”.
• 1 C-130 to transport from Athens and Thessaloniki 90 firemen.
• 1 Hellenic Navy LST is at readiness to transport more means to the island, if needed.
