By initiative of the Alternate Minister of National Defence Dimitris Vitsas, on Friday September 29 2017 at 12:00, a guided tour of the Church of Saint Demetrius will take place (the church is in the premises of Naval Fort a’ – “PALASKAS” Training Centre). The Byzantine iconography of the Saint Demetrius church was made by painter Panayiotis Tetsis in 1948, during his military service in the Hellenic Navy. The tour will be conducted by Manos Stefanidis, Associate Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University.
This, unknown to the majority, significant artistic work of such an important painter should be brought out and studied, since it presents a different aspect of Panayiotis Tetsis’ art.
The aim of such an initiative is to contribute to the promotion of the historical and artistic aspects of this particular monument, as well as of monuments and art works in the Armed Forces in general.
The journalists interested in covering the event are kindly requested to sign up by Thursday 28/9/17 at 17.00, calling the number 210-6598186, so as to facilitate the issue of press passes. On Friday 29/9/17 at 10.45, a vehicle will depart from the Ministry of National Defence to carry them to the premises.
