The Alternate Minister of National Defence Dimitris Vitsas, in the presence of the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Georgios GIakoumakis inaugurated the renovated ward blocks 5B and 4D of Athens Naval Hospital, as well as the ambulance reception at the entrance of the Emergency Department and the new high technology CAT scanner. The inauguration was attended by the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard Vice Admiral Stamatios Raptis.
The Alternate Minister stated in his address:
“I am really glad to be here today on the occasion of the inauguration of the renovated ward block of the Pathology clinic of the Naval Hospital; a hospital with history, scientific tradition and hospitalisation experience.
The upgrade of healthcare infrastructure is always a positive step, especially today, in an environment with many problems and needs. It is a properly formed place, a humane and modern place that makes the hospitalization in it easier and more comfortable creating significant to the condition of the patients. It also contributes to the improvement of the working conditions of the personnel of the hospital and the quality of the provided services.
With this renovation, the personnel of the Hellenic Navy, as well as their family members and our fellow citizens who are beneficiaries will be given the possibility to be hospitalised, if needed, under the supervision and care of excellently trained doctors and nurses, in a place built according to high standards which respects their dignity and needs.
A ward block with all the necessary comforts is being delivered; it is also capable of providing specialized healthcare services, such as hospitalizing patients with severe infections in the two rooms of negative pressure.
Moreover, the other departments of the hospital which we will visit today which are the new out-patient clinic and the recently purchased CAT scanner, show us that despite the financial crisis, efforts are still being made for important improvements in the existing structures which gives us hopes that these efforts will be successful.
I would like to stress, at first, the excellent cooperation between the Hellenic Navy and the Coast Guard which is also proved by the fact that the Coast Guard provided a high technology ambulance and one dental chair to meet the needs of the Naval Hospital. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Direction of the hospital and praise its coordinated efforts, as well as all the other works that are executed in the hospital.
Thank you all for fulfilling such an important job and for your contribution to the preservation and upgrade of the level of the provided healthcare services.
I wish all of you to be strong to perform your difficult duty”.
