The Alternate Minister of National Defence Dimitris Vitsas in an interview that he gave on Friday, 12 May, 2017, on SKAI TV to journalist Anna Bousdoukou, stated, among other things:
Regarding the salary issues of the military and the Greek-Turkish relations:
The total salary budget of the Armed Forces and Security Corps will not be reduced even by one cent. On the contrary, there will be several cases, according to our calculations, – I am referring to the Ministry of National Defence – the majority will see their salaries slightly increased.
We will not concern ourselves with new armaments. We have a strategy that includes training, strategic plans and upgrades, as well as maintenance of our weapon systems. The recent meeting of the Chiefs of General Staffs of the Balkan countries in Athens has proved this and we will continue our efforts to this direction.
We are interested in the European course of Turkey; the question however is whether Turkey’s political leadership is interested in such a course and what this means. We must be decisive and sober and take into considerations many aspects at the same time.
