The Alternate Minister of National Defence Dimitris Vitsas and the Regional Governor of the Region of Attica Rena Dourou met in the Ministry of National Defence on Monday, May 16, 2016. The topic of their meeting was the coordination of activities regarding the fire protection around the accommodation centres of refugees which operate in the Region of Attica.

They also discussed about the findings of the on spot inspections which were recently conducted by the Independent Civil Protection Directorate of the Region of Attica in the accommodation centres which are situated within forest areas or near them. The two sides agreed on the coordination of the action and on taking relevant measures for the safety of refugees in view of the fire fighting period.

A mutual briefing on the management of the refugees’ issue was also conducted and further action for the support and reinforcement of the accommodation efforts for refugees and migrants was discussed. In parallel, particular emphasis was given to the role of the Region in motivating citizens and supporting the social solidarity structures.
