Alternate Defence Minister Dimitris Vitsas visits the inauguration of the renovated Pathology Clinic of the 401 Athens General Military Hospital

The Alternate Minister of National Defence Dimitris Vitsas accompanied by the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Vasileios Tellidis inaugurated the refurbished 2nd pathology clinic of 401 Athens General Military Hospital on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

In his statement, the Alternate Defence Minister congratulated the Command of the Hospital, the personnel and every participant in the works and praised the job of health care personnel of the Armed Forces who meet the constantly increasing needs effectively. He stressed that, given the financial circumstances, it is very important to adapt the finances to the needs and not the needs to the finances. He also stressed that the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence stands by the health care personnel of the Armed Forces and said that a legislative act is about to be proposed, which will deal with many long lasting problems regarding the operation of the military hospitals. Afterwards, the Alternate Defence Minister visited the renovated facilities.

Renovation of building facilities and infrastructure of military hospitals and Mobile Field Surgical Hospitals

The works for the refurbishment of the 2nd pathology clinic of Athens General Military Hospital included the renovation of all the rooms, corridors and other infrastructure, as well as their accessory networks.

The project of the renovation of building facilities and infrastructure of Military Hospitals and Mobile Field Surgical Hospitals which is coordinated, supervised and monitored by the Directorate of Infrastructure and Environmental Protection of the Hellenic Army General Staff, is part of the general effort of the Military Service to upgrade its healthcare services provided to military and civilian personnel by the Military Hospitals and Mobile Field Surgical Hospitals

To this end, the optimization of construction actions is implemented through targeted interventions with a full utilization of the capabilities provided by the existent funds, mainly via the National Investments Programme.

The following works have been implemented or are conducted per Hospital:

401 Athens General Military Hospital

Completed actions:

 • Full reconstruction of 1st and 2nd nursing unit of the pathology sector.

• Transformation of an existent space into a cytology laboratory.

• Total reconstruction of the echocardiography labs.

• bidding procedure and the contract for the construction of an Artificial Kidney Unit and the renovation of the 1st surgical clinic is expected to be signed.

Actions which are underway:

• Reconstruction of the Pulmonology clinic which is expected to be completed in August 2016,

• Construction of inactive surgery rooms in a new department for endoscopy.

• Upgrade of electrical substations.

• Construction of an external stretcher lift.

• Construction of a laboratory for the dissolution of chemotherapy drugs.

424 Thessaloniki General Military Hostpiral

The Linear Accelerator was activated for specialized targeted radiotherapy.

404 Larisa General Military Hospital

The following actions have been completed:

• Enhancement of electric network power.

• Construction of stretcher lift.

• Connection of the hospital with the natural gas network.

The works for the renovation of the 1st floor nursing department are underway and will be completed in August 2016.

In addition, after the completion of the personnel appointments, all existent medical specialties of the 404 Larisa General Military Hospital will still be available. The specialty of nephrologist will also be made available.

414 Penteli Military Hospital for Special Diseases

• The reconstruction for the operation of Joint Clinic Physical Rehabilitation.

• The reconstruction of facilities for the creation of a Joint Psychiatric Clinic is underway.

212 Mobile Field Surgical Hospital

The bidding procedure was completed and the contract for the renovation and upgrade of infrastructure is expected to be signed.

216 Mobile Field Surgical Hospital

The works for the renovation of infrastructure and energy upgrade are underway.

The works which have been completed, as well as the ones which are being conducted contribute to the constant improvement of the health care facilities by respecting patients’ dignity.

The effort for a constant upgrade of health care services is always among the top priorities of the political and military leadership. This effort will be continued and, along with the scientific competence of the Medical and Nursing staff of military hospitals, it will ensure the high level of the health care services.
