The Alternate Minister of National Defence Dimitris Vitsas visited the NATO HQ in Naples, Italy, on October 19, 2016.
During his visit, he was briefed by the HQ’s Chief of Staff about the operation and planning of this particular structure of the alliance and they exchanged views about the situation in the area. The Alternate Minister referred to the Greek position on the stabilization of the area and to the role that Greece plays to this end.
The Alternate Minister of National Defence met the personnel of the Hellenic Armed Forces who currently serve in NATO HQ and stressed the importance of their mission and how the latter is related to national commitments and national interests.
On Tuesday, October 18, 2016, he participated in the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM 2016) which was held in Rome. It should be noted that Greece will assume the chairmanship of this cooperation of states in South-Eastern Europe as of July 2017. SEDM, as the Greek Minister stressed in his statements, is an important forum of understanding on defence policy issues of the Balkans and the wider region.
