April 2, 2018

The Alternate Minister of National Defence Fotis Kouvelis signed an updated version of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence and the Association for Social Pediatrics and Medicine “Anihti Agkalia”.

The Armed Forces, as part of their social contribution, have been offering assistance to residents of remote islands in Greece (small islands of the Aegean, mountainous areas in the mainland) over the last 20 years, by sending groups of military medical doctors to provide preventive primary healthcare.

In 2015, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the Ministry of National Defence and the Association for Social Pediatrics and Medicine for two years’ duration, aiming to determine a synergy framework of the Ministry of National Defence with this Association and to ensure the effectiveness of the cooperation between the participating agencies.

The preventive medicine programme, which is conducted in partnership – cooperation of the HNDGS with the Association, has produced so far the following results:

In the period February 2016 to December 2017, a total of 16,772 medical examinations took place. 70% of them (9,911 medical examinations regarding 6,783 children and 3,128 adults) were conducted through the support of the HNDGS and the HNGS.

This updated Memorandum ensures an effective cooperation between the parties involved in providing primary healthcare services and assistance to residents of remote areas of Greece.
