The Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, answered to a reference made in the margins of the meeting of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs in the Parliament today by the Member with the SYRIZA party representing the 2nd Piraeus District, Mr. Theodoros Dritsas, about the military assistance provided by our country to Ukraine.
The Minister noted the following:
“As we said right from the start, whatever we sent to Ukraine in terms of defence material – because currently there is no question of resending other systems, etc. – comes from our reserves.
There is no chance at all of us weakening any point of our defensive structure, especially in the islands, in order to get any system from there and send it to Ukraine. The Political and Military Leadership of the Ministry of National Defence made that clear and I believe there is nothing more to say.
We have no intention of weakening the Greek territory’s defence, in order to assist Ukraine in terms of defence. Ι would like to make this clear, but possibly we will discuss this further, if the Committee holds a meeting on these issues in particular.
Thank you”.
