Doctoral research in Higher Military Educational Institutes has been approved for the first time.
Doctoral research upgrades the Higher Military Educational Institutes’ research work at the level of the other Higher Education Institutes, implementing Law 5110/2024, which modernizes the institutional framework of Higher Military Educational Institutes.
The Law provides, inter alia, that the Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation funds doctoral research and other research activities in the field of defence, with a view to utilise the scientific potential of the Higher Military Educational Institutes.
It is reminded that the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, at a discussion in the Hellenic Parliament, regarding the Law of the Ministry of National Defence “Establishment of the Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation, modernization of institutional framework of the Higher Military Educational Institutes, establishment of Common Information Systems Corps in the Armed Forces, and other provisions”, apropos the doctoral research in the Higher Military Educational Institutes, had stated that “It serves the same basic concept, leveraging human capital through research. PhDs are research, and this is what we are looking for. We are aiming to new solutions in existing issues, and we need to address the students in our military schools. We have some bright minds, and this is something I said to the Committee. Should one visit the Hellenic Military Academy and see the research already performed – yet in a way that is vague and without a set purpose – he would understand the possibilities we have, if we get to use these minds”.
In particular, during the approval procedure, a total of 43 research proposals were put, which were assessed based on scientific, technological and operational criteria. From these proposals, six research projects were selected for funding, corresponding to 11 doctoral researches to be implemented by the Higher Military Educational Institutes, as follows:
