On Monday 18 January 2021, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed, at the Ministry of National Defence, between the “Vasilios G. Melas Foundation for Preschool Education” and the ΧΙΙ Mechanised Infantry Division, with the goal of a donation for the building of a nursery in Alexandroupoli.
The “Vasilios G. Melas Foundation for Preschool Education”, from 1895 till today, utilises its donations to build nurseries, collaborating with the municipalities of the Greek territory, aiming for an attractive, creative and pleasant environment for the children. The new nursery in “PATSOUKA” Camp – Alexandroupoli, will have a capacity for 40 babies and infants.
Mr Georgios Melas, the President of the Foundation’s Administrative Committee, represented the Foundation for the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation.
The Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis, the Deputy Chief of HNDGS Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymousis, the Deputy Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Evangelos Lykos attended the signing, while the Commander of the XII Mechanised Infantry Division Major General Christos Mpoufis participated via teleconference.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence thanked the President of the Foundation for the immediate response and support of the Armed Forces’ vision, through the donation for the building of the new Nursery in Alexandroupoli, as well as the simultaneous support of the Nursery in “PAPAGOU Camp”, stressing the everlasting contribution of the Melas Family to the Armed Forces and our Homeland.
Mr Georgios Melas thanked the Deputy Minister of National Defence for his crucial actions and initiatives, such as the restoration of the historic Pavlos Melas Residence – on which occasion they met – and mentioned their extensive talks which fortunately resulted to the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation. He also thanked the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff for the unperturbed cooperation during the donation’s necessary procedures, which will contribute to the improvement of the standard of living of the Armed Force personnel in Alexandroupoli, a city essential to the national interests. The Nursery’s building is added to a series of donations in the area of Evros, where the Foundation has built 15 kindergartens, repaired 12 nurseries and provided supplies to another 38.
The Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff thanked the President of the Foundation for this significant donation to the Armed Forces and ensured that the works will be executed immediately, so that the personnel will use the new facilities, as soon as possible.
The Commander of the ΧΙΙ Mechanised Infantry Division underlined that the donation for the Camp’s multi-purpose facility, enforces personnel morale and overwhelms everyone with pride.
