The Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias briefed today, Wednesday 13 November 2024, the competent representatives of the parties, regarding the New Structure of the Armed Forces for the period 2024 – 2035, in consideration of tomorrow’s session of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament.
From the political leadership, those who attended were the Deputy Minister of National Defence Giannis Kefalogiannis and the General Secretary Antonios Ikonomou.
Other individuals attending the briefing were the Chief of HNDGS General Dimitrios Choupis, the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN and the Chief of HAFGS Lieutenant General (Pilot) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis.
From the Standing Parliamentary Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs, the briefing was observed by the Vice Chairperson of the Committee Mr Dimitrios Keridis and the Chairperson of the Special Committee on Armament Programmes and Contracts Mr Athanasios Davakis.
The parties were represented by the MPs Christos Dermentzopoulos (New Democracy), Evangelos Apostolakis (SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance), Michail Katrinis (PASOK-Movement for Change), Nikos Papanastasis (Communist Party of Greece), Vasilios Viliardos (Greek Solution), Sia Anagnostopoulou (New Left), Tasos Ikonomopoulos (Niki [Victory]), Alexandros Kazamias (Course of Freedom) and Alexandros Zerveas (Spartans).
The General Director of Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) Major General Ioannis Bouras, the General Director of Financial Planning and Support (GDFPS) retired Rear Admiral (Finance) Panagiotis Stathopoulos and the General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations (GDNDPIR) Honorary Ambassador Michail Spinellis were also present.
