On Friday 20 June 2025, a broad meeting was held under the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, regarding the progress of the implementation of the reform of medical care provision in the Armed Forces, which constitutes part of the overall “2030 Agenda” reform.
The aim is to provide optimal medical care conditions to Armed Forces personnel and their families, as well as to retired personnel.
During the meeting, which was held at the Ministry of National Defence, the 2025 Medical Action Plan for the Armed Forces, the modernisation of medical technological equipment of Military Hospitals, as well as the potential of saving appropriated funds through the installation of a Single Integrated Information System, which will be donated by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, were analysed.
The implementation progress of the stipulations of the recently voted-for Law 5195/2025, as well as the establishment of a modern Trauma Centre in the 401st General Military Hospital of Athens, which will function as a model for all hospitals of the country, were presented in detail.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis, the General Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence Antonios Oikonomou, Chief/HNDGS General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief/HAGS Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, Chief/HNGS Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras HN, Chief/HAFGS Lieutenant General Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, the Directors of the Medical Corps Directorates of the General Staffs, and the Commanding Generals of the Military Hospitals participated in the meeting.
In addition, the Director of the Army Share Fund Hospital Andreas Plemmenos and the Professor of Surgery of Harvard Medical School and Division Chief of Trauma, Emergency Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care at Massachusetts General Hospital Georgios Velmahos, also attended the meeting.
