On Thursday, 31 January 2019, His Excellency, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos, the Alternate Minister of National Defence Panagiotis Rigas, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General (AF) Christos Christodoulou, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis HN and the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Blioumis (AF), attended the ceremonial event organised by the Hellenic Navy, for the 75th anniversary from the sailing of the glorious destroyer ADRIAS to the port of Alexandria, Egypt. The event took place on board the Floating Naval Museum “BATTLESHIP G. AVEROF”, at the Park of Maritime Tradition, adjacent to the marina of Flisvos.
The legendary ship ADRIAS, after striking a mine on 22 October 1943 at the sea area of Kalymnos, which caused the death of 21 members of its crew and tore her bow off, managed to sail to Alexandria, due to the actions of the captain and its crew, on 6 December 1943, covering a distance of seven hundred and thirty nautical miles.
