Circles from the Ministry of National Defence, responding to questions posed by journalists concerning today’s front-page article at the newspaper “DIMOKRATIA”, pointed out the following:

“We express our sorrow for the fact that the newspaper “DIMOKRATIA”, with today’s front-page article which refers to supposed new budget cuts for Armed Forces -retired or on active duty- personnel, was the victim of mischievous informers of odd origin.

In order to clear all, intentional or not, misunderstanding, it is clarified that what was written concerning new budget cuts to the particular incomes is completely untrue.

What is happening is the exactly opposite. The political leadership of the Ministry of National Defence has begun the procedure to draw up a new payroll for the Armed Forces and the relative meetings, so as to find the exact policies and the appropriate measures that will allow the support and encouragement of men and women serving in the Armed Forces, during these extremely difficult times we experience, as far as the fiscal circumstances are concerned.

The State has fully realised the enormous offer all personnel in the Armed Forces has made to the country, as well as the special dedication with which they perform their duty during this extremely difficult period, and is fully aware of what it owes to them.

It is pointed out that all organisations of retired military personnel will be called to assist this effort, contributing with their views and opinions, given the fact that the retired militaries are a part of the Hellenic Armed Forces’ broader family”.
