From May 20 to June 07 2013, beach cleansing was performed by personnel of the Armed Forces, within the framework of the Ministry’s of National Defence implementing principles concerning environmental policy and contribution to society, on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5th.
This action was performed throughout the territory and the aim was to contribute to the country’s preparation for the tourist period.
It was an initiative of the pertinent for environmental policy of the MOD, Deputy Minister of National defence Mr. Dimitris Elefsiniotis, who has the complete and essential support of the Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos.
Local Units and Formations of all three Branches of the Armed Forces closely cooperated with regional and municipal authorities to the larger part of continental and island Greece’s coasts.
Above and beyond the virtual responsiveness shown by the Ministry of National defence and the Armed forces as far as matters of protection of the environment are concerned, an improvement of the environmental conscience of permanent and conscript personnel of the Armed Forces participating in this action, was achieved.
