Conclusion of the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos participation in the 56th Security Conference in Munich

On 14 and 15 February 2020, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos participated in the 56th Security Conference, held in Munich.

During the first day of the works, Mr. Panagiotopoulos had informal, short meetings with participants’ officials, as well as with his counterparts from Lebanon and Georgia, the parliamentary Deputy Minister of the Defence of Germany and the Head of the Political-Military Affairs of Israel.

On the second day of the works, he participated in the breakfast meeting from the ‘Think Tank Cohen Group’, where the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, General Tod Wolters AF, delivered an address; the U.S. Secretary of Defence, Mr. Mark Esper, the President of the House of Representatives Mrs. Nancy Pelosi, U.S. members of the Parliament, Senators and Defence Ministers from European States, Canada and Australia also participated.

Following breakfast, the Minister of National Defence met with the U.S. Senators, Mr. James Inhofe, Mr. Roger Wicker, Mr. Michael Rounds, Mr. Kevin Cramer, Mr. John Boozman and the members of the Parliament, Mr. John F. Kelly and Mr. Timothy Lee Walberg.

The issues discussed were the strategic relation between Greece and the U.S.A. and the importance of the recently signed Protocol of the Mutual Defence Agreement Amendment (MDCA) regarding intensifying the bilateral cooperation in the defence and the defence-technical field and promoting security and stability.

The contribution of the trilateral cooperation with Cyprus, Israel and Egypt was pointed out, regarding promoting peace, security and stability in the wider region.
