On Friday 17 July 2026, the visit of the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, to Australia was concluded.
During the final day of his visit, the Greek Minister visited research centres and internationally leading defence innovation and technology companies, in Sydney.
Subsequently, Mr. Dendias met journalists of the mass media of the Greek community at the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney and informed them on his contacts in Australia and the priorities of the Greek Ministry of National Defence. He also expressed his satisfaction for being able to note the dynamics of Australia’s Hellenism during his visit.
Finally, Mr. Dendias also met the Australian Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, Matt Thistlethwaite, at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, in Sydney, with whom they discussed current international and regional security challenges, as well as the importance of safeguarding the maritime routes, within the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
During his visits, the Minister was accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece to Australia Stavros Venizelos, the Director of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Armaments Directorate, Rear Admiral Panagiotis Karavas HN, and the General Consul of Greece in Sydney Georgios Skemperis.
