By decision of Defence Minister Panos Panagiotopoulos, the Ministry allocated Armed Forces’ personnel and means for firefighting

By decision of the Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos, the Ministry of National Defence responding 100% to requests submitted by the apposite agents, allocated to the services of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, for the period from 07 to 09 August 2012, for fighting the ongoing fires, land forces, aerial means and materiel, as follows:

ñ  Megalopoli – Arkadia

On Aug 07, 5 CL-215, 2 CL-415.

On Aug 08, 3 CL-215, 2 CL-415.

On Aug 09, 2 CL-215, 4 PZL.

Moreover, 20 personnel have been allocated from the 2nd Paratrooper Squadron, 20 personnel from the Hellenic Air Force General Staff and 2 Bulldozers from the 747 Special Engineer Battalion.

ñ  Solomos – Corinth

On Aug 08, 4 CL-215, 2 CL-415, 2 CH-47D Helo

On Aug 09, 2 CL-215, 1 CH-47D Helo

Moreover, 30 personnel have been allocated from the 575 Marines Battalion and 2 Bulldozers from the School of Military Engineering.

ñ  Helandariou Monastery – Halkidiki

On Aug 08, 3 CL-415.

On Aug 09, 5 CL-415, 2 CL-215.

Moreover, 60 personnel have been allocated from the 71st Air Mobile Brigade, 2 Bulldozers from the 723 Engineer Battalion, 1 Bulldozer from the 711 Engineer Company, 2 Water Wagons from the Hellenic Air Force General Staff and 1 Water Wagon from the 723 Engineer Battalion.

Since the beginning of the Firefighting period, the following allocations have been made:

PERSONNEL

Total of Armed Forces’ Personnel: 2137 personnel (land forces, support to firefighting, surveillance patrol)

Specifically:

Allocated personnel for Forest Firefighting support: 641 personnel

Allocated personnel for Surveillance patrols: 1496 personnel

MEANS

  • 40 Vessels of various types
  • 18 Bulldozers
  • 3 Loaders
  • 1 Land graders
  • 24 Water Wagons
  • 39 Ladder Trucks
  • 671 Sorties of Motorised Patrol Vessels.

Flight Operations

  • 488 sorties of Canadair aircraft (CL-215 & 415) corresponding to 1389,3 flight hours
  • 436 sorties of smaller aircraft corresponding to 690,3 flight hours

Finally, we should record that the Armed Forces are at constant readiness for the allocation of extra forces and means, so as to contribute to firefighting, depending on the needs occurring and the requests submitted by the apposite authorities.
