By decision of the Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos, the Commander of the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands Lieutenant General Vassilios Tellidis will go over to the island of Chios in order to coordinate the Armed Forces’ mobilisation and participation, where required by the Fire Brigade – holding the general coordination – to combating the great fire afflicting the island.
Moreover the Ministry, responding to requests submitted by the apposite agents, allocated on August 18 2012 to the services of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, to assist the combating of the fire, land force, aerial means and materiel, as follows:
Aerial Means
- 6 CL-415
- 2 CL-215
- 1 Super Puma Helo for the transport of firemen from other islands to Chios.
- 1 C-27 for the transport of 30 firemen from Thessaloniki.
Personnel and means
- The entire military personnel and means on the island
The Hellenic Navy LST “Samos” departs transporting 20 ladder trucks and 85 firemen from Athens.
Finally, it should be noted that the Armed Forces are at constant readiness to allocate more forces and means, so as to contribute to the combating of fires, depending on the needs emerging and the requirements submitted by the apposite authorities.
