By decision of the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and by order given by Defence Minister Panos Panagiotopoulos, all Armed Forces’ Units of Central Macedonia are at standby for the combating of the fire at Mount Athos

y decision of the Prime Minister Mr. Antonis Samaras and following an order by the Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos, all available forces in Central Macedonia are at standby and the Major Operational Formations’ Headquarters and Operation Centres within the area are activated in order to combat the fire at Mount Athos.

The Ministry of National Defence, fully responding to requests submitted by the apposite agents, allocated to the services of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, for the period from 09 to 10 August 2012, for fighting the ongoing fires, land forces, aerial means and materiel, as follows:

Megalopoli – Arkadia

On Aug 09, 2 CL-215, 4 PZL

On Aug 10, 2 CL-415, 4 PZL

Moreover, 20 personnel have been allocated from the 2nd Paratrooper Squadron, 20 personnel from the Hellenic Air Force General Staff and 2 Bulldozers from the 747 Special Engineer Battalion.

 Solomos – Corinth

On Aug 09, 5 CL-215, 2 CL-415, 2 CH-47D Helo

On Aug 10, 2 CL-215,

Moreover, 30 personnel have been allocated from the 575 Marines Battalion, 30 personnel from the Hellenic Air Force General Staff and 2 Bulldozers from the School of Military Engineering.

Helandariou Monastery – Halkidiki

On Aug 10, 5 CL-415, 1 CL-215, 2 CH-47 Helo were allocated

Moreover, 241 personnel have been allocated from the Hellenic Army General Staff, 21 Vessels of various types, 5 Bulldozers, 3 Tractors, 4 Water Wagons, as well as the necessary Force Command & Control means. From the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, 4 personnel and 2 Water Wagons have been allocated.
