On Tuesday 05 April 2022, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias visited the Engineer School and 747 Special Engineer Battalion headquarters in Loutraki, Korinthos, accompanied by HAGS/ENG DTE Director, Major General Leonidas Papaleonidas.
In the context of the visits, Mr. Chardalias was briefed by the Commanders, Brigadier General Charalambos Akrivos (Engineer School) and Lieutenant Colonel Nikolaos Papamargaritis (747 Special Engineer Battalion), on the School and Battalion’s organisation, mission, work and current activities. He also toured their premises and conversed with members and soldiers.
During the visits, the Deputy Minister of Defence was briefed on the modern, digital means used by the Engineer School for members’ training, as well as on the capabilities of the 747 Special Engineer Battalion in the search and rescue fields.
Mr. Chardalias watched subjects of training of the Engineer School and 747 Special Engineer Battalion personnel among which the construction of a footbridge, light tactical raft crossing (for personnel, materials and assets transport), as well as the training (education and training) of Engineer Reserve Officers Candidates. He also watched a demonstration of Special Battalion static materials, devices and materials of explosives disposal, as well as rescue techniques and dogs use in search and rescue.
Finally, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the Ancient Diolkos section which has been preserved in the School’s barracks.
