The Minister of National Defence Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis attended yesterday, Sunday 18 June, the opening ceremony of the 2nd “MARCH OF GALILEE” at the Town Hall of Gerakas.
The opening ceremony was declared by the Metropolitan of Mesogaia and Lavreotiki Mr. Nikolaos, and the Mayor of Pallini, Gerakas and Anthoussa Mr. Athanassios Zoutsos, on behalf of all the Mayors who co-organised this action. Delegates of the Regional and Local Government, MP candidates and other local bodies.
A short march to the 1st Municipal Sports Centre of Gerakas followed, under the slogan: “Eight Municipalities – One hug for the relief of cancer patients”, paying tribute to the struggle of patients and their families. The Minister of National defence also participated in the march.
The “March of Galilee” was held for the second consecutive year, and is an annual multimunicipal institution for support and social solidarity with cancer patients. This innovative action is undertaken by the Galilee Palliative Care Unit, with the involvement of the eight municipalities of Mesogeia and Lavreotiki.
