On Thursday 22 June, in the presence of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the oath taking ceremony of the new Second Lieutenants Class 2023 “First Lieutenant Antonios Karambelas” took place, at the premises of the Hellenic Army Academy, in Vari, Attica.
The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of National Defence Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, the Minister for Citizen Protection Mr. Charalambos Laloussis, the Chief/HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief/HAGS Lieutenant General Aggelos Choudeloudis, the Chief/HNGS Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymoussis HN, the Deputy Chief/HAFGS Major General Antonios Panidis, the members of the Army Higher Military Council.
The Reverend Metropolitan of Glyfada-Ellinikon-Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni Antonios, the Mayor of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni Mr. Grigoris Konstantellos, representatives of the Regional and Local Self-Administration, relatives of the new Second Lieutenants, retired officers, as well as the granddaughter of the hero Macedonian warrior Pavlos Melas Ms. Natalia Ioannidi, honoured the ceremony by their presence.
177 Second Lieutenants graduated from the Academy, out of whom 146 from Greece, 25 from Cyprus, two from Bosnia-Herzegovina, one from Armenia, one from Moldavia, one from Albania and one from Senegal.
In a statement, the Minister of National Defence points out:
“We honour the Military Academy for the 195 years of contribution to the Country of the Cadets, whom Ioannis Kapodistrias first called “Cadets”, that is those who incarnate the hopes of the Nation, determined to defend the territorial integrity and national independence with their own life, if necessary”.
