June 24, 2023

The Minister of National Defence, Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, welcomed the students and teachers of the 5th High School of Vironas, who were awarded the first prize in the pan-Hellenic competition of space technologies “CanSat In Greece” and will participate in the pan-European competition organised in Granada, Spain; the expenses will be completely covered by the HNDGS.

The twelve students, the two graduates, the Director of the High School Mr. Charalambos Alexatos and the teachers visited the Minister of National Defence, in order to thank him for supporting their participation in the pan-European competition “CanSat In Europe”, aiming at the familiarization with space technologies, and organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) from 26 until 30 June.

During the visit, the Director of the High School and the student-head of the team had a conversation with the caretaker Prime Minister Mr. Ioannis Sarmas, who wished good luck and continuation of their career in Greece.

It is pointed out that the students designed a small size geostatic satellite, which, through Artificial Intelligence technology, allows secure communications, scientific measurements and identification of risky situations, like fires.

In a statement, the Minister of National Defence points out:

Our young people constitute a guarantee for the future of Greece. When our young people possess a high morale, faith, vision, love for the Country and eagerness for learning, then the future of Greece is guaranteed. We believe in our young people, they are our hope and they will lead Greece in a path of welfare and progress. The Ministry of National Defence supports with all its strength the effort of the 5th High School of Vironas and I wish it gets the first place in the international competition, following the first place in Greece.

Good luck, with optimism and faith to victory!”
