The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos met today, Wednesday 11 May 2022 with the new US Ambassador Mr. George James Tsunis. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias.

At their discussions, which were held in a very cordial environment, it was noted that there is very high level of the strategic defence relationship between Greece and the US, which is based on common values
and the strong friendship between the two countries and their peoples. In this context, the importance of the Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) was highlighted, along with Greece’s role as a
stable, reliable and timeless ally of the US, for the promotion of security and stability in the broader region.

The security situation in the broader area was also discussed, and the need to fully respect International Law and the principle of good neighbourly relations was underlined, as it is a fundamental prerequisite for the
establishment of a climate of security and cooperation.

In addition, the important role played by the Greeks in the US, towards the strong ties of friendship and cooperation between Greece and the US, was highlighted.
