The Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, regarding the death of members of the Hellenic humanitarian aid mission in Libya, stated the following:

“I express my deep sorrow for the death of the three Armed Forces’ personnel who lost their lives on duty, participating in the Hellenic humanitarian aid mission in Libya. The loss of their lives in an
accident, as they actively showed solidarity to the hard hit fellow humans, along with members of other countries’ missions, immensely saddens the broader family of the Armed forces, and the entire Greek people.
I also express my deep sorrow for the death of the two civilians who were part of the same mission. At this time, our thoughts are with the families of the accident’s victims, to whom we extend our most heartfelt condolences, as well as with the injured, to whom we offer our wishes for a speedy recovery. By my decision, three days of mourning are announced in the Armed Forces for the death of their personnel during the humanitarian aid mission in Libya.
