The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos received in his office today, Wednesday 2 December 2020, the OTE Group Chairman and CEO Mr. Michael Tsamaz, so as to receive a donation of 500 thousand Euros to cover operational needs of the Armed Forces.
Afterwards, the donation acceptance agreement was signed in the “Ioannis Kapodistrias” Hall, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, the Chief/HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief HAFGS Lieutenant General Georgios Blioumis, the Chief/HAGS Lieutenant General Charalambos Laloussis and the Chief HNGS Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis.
The donation made by COSMOTE regards the procurement of equipment to support patrol means and intercom systems in border regions, as well as of materiel to enhance barriers, amounting up to five thousand Euros. The scope of the donation was defined in cooperation with the competent bodies of the Ministry, so that it would respond to the needs emerging from the constant surveillance of the borders.
After the end of the acceptance ceremony, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos stated the following:
“We had the pleasure of receiving the Chairman and CEO of the OTE Group Mr. Michael Tsamaz, with the purpose of signing the acceptance agreement for COSMOTE’s donation to the Ministry of National Defence.
This agreement regards a €500,000 donation to the Hellenic Armed Forces, in the framework of their effort to defend our country’s sovereign rights, especially at its land borders. It regards the provision of materiel and equipment to the Hellenic Army General Staff, which was the one to define the needs. We appealed to OTE Group, which immediately responded with financial aid, so as to help cover these needs.
For this reason, we thank COSMOTE and OTE Group, Mr. Michale Tsamaz who represented the Group here today, and we avow our contentment. The Armed Forces’ struggle meets supporters in the business world; one of the largest and more important Groups in our country, that shows active interest to the great effort made in the Geek Armed Forces, by the Armed Forces’ personnel and the Military Leadership, assisted by the Ministry’s Political Leadership, so as to succeed in their mission”.
The Chairman and CEO of the OTE Group Mr. Michael Tsamaz made the following statement:
