The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos announced that twenty one new Olympic Champions entered the Armed Forces, commissioned as Active Reserve Army Officers, in a special event held at “Ioannis Kapodistrias” Hall of the Ministry of National Defence.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos welcomed the Olympic Champions to honour them for their achievements, which filled Greek society with pride, honour and emotion.
The Minister of National Defence pointed out that the accession of our Olympic Champions to the Armed Forces is the least acknowledgment of their contribution to the country.
The relative Joint Ministerial Decision between the Ministry of Culture & Sports and the Ministry of National Defence was signed in August 2021. Their accession procedure, which started in November 2022, is at an extremely advanced stage, since the decisions of the Supreme Medical Committees are expected, in order for the relative Presidential Decree to be published in the Government Gazette.
The event was attended by the Deputy Chief/HNDGS Fragiskos Leloudas HN, the Chief/HAGS Lieutenant General Aggelos Choudeloudis, the Chief/HNGS Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymoussis HN, the Deputy Chief/HAFGS Major General Antonios Panidis and the Director of the Armed Forces Supreme Sports Council Captain Dimitrios Andriopoulos.
