The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, representing the Government at the celebrations held in the city of Thessaloniki for the 110th anniversary since its liberation received today, Wednesday 26 October 2022, Her Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, at the Holy Temple of Agios Dimitrios in Thessaloniki where a doxology was officiated by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Anthimos.

The celebrations were also attended by HNDGS/Chief General Konstantinos Floros, HAGS/Chief Lieutenant General Haralambos Laloussis, HNGS/Chief Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis and HAFGS/Chief Lieutenant General Themistoklis Bourolias.

After the Doxology, the Minister of National Defence made the following statement:

“In numerous occasions, the Great Orthodox Feasts of our Nation coincide with our great National Days. So today, here in Thessaloniki, we gloriously celebrate the Feast of its Patron-Saint, Saint Dimitrios, as well as the 110th anniversary of the city’s liberation from the Turkish yoke, at a time when Greece was getting larger and stronger.

Our duty is to keep the legacy we inherited from these times, so that our country will get stronger, especially currently, as we experience circumstances of great difficulties and complex problems, especially geopolitical. This is our own duty; this is our obligation.

Many happy returns to Thessaloniki and Macedonia!” Mr. Panagiotopoulos also attended exhibition drill by the Drill Platoon of the Hellenic Military Academy of Combat Support Officers.
