The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos signed, on Tuesday 14 December, a Memorandum of Cooperation and Understanding between the National Defence Fund (NDF) and the Municipality of Pella, with the Mayor of Pella Mr. Grigoris Stamkos, in the context of a broader cooperation of strategic character, which aims, on the one hand, to the urban development of certain districts within the Municipality and, on the other hand, to the utilization of the property of NDF in an optimal manner.
The signing was also attended by the Chief of HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros.
This cooperation is implemented with a view to:
a. Promoting causes of general interest, according to the strategic planning of both parties and, more specifically, with a view to meeting the requirement of financial development of the wider area of Pella Municipality, through the improvement of its residents’ quality of living and through the increase of the locally produced income, through the creation of new employment posts, in conjunction with financial or other benefits which may exist for both the Municipality of Pella and the NDF as strategic partners.
b. promoting the synergy of two key State bodies (Armed Forces – Local Government), in relation with the utilization of the existent property of NDF in the Municipality of Pella, specifically of the former Camps “FILIPPAKOS” and “KAPSALIS” covering a surface of 230,000 sqm and 72,000 sqm respectively.
The urban planning procedure will be assumed by the Municipality of Pella, in a close cooperation with the NDF and it has been scheduled to be completed within three (3) years from the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation and Understanding.
After the completion of the urban planning, the NDF will acquire approximately 50% of the total surface of 302,000 sqm in blocks under specific terms of use of land and building. The Municipality will be granted the rest of the area as a contribution in land and money, according to the provisions of the relevant legislation on the urban planning of areas.
