The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos and the Mayor of Nafplio Mr. Dimitrios Kostouros signed a Memorandum
of Cooperation and Understanding, on Monday 13 December 2021, between the National Defence Fund (NDF) and the Municipality of Nafplio, in the context of a broader cooperation which aims, on the one hand, at developing certain districts within the Municipality and, on the other hand, to utilize, in an optimal manner, the property of the NDF.
The signing was also attended by the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis and the 2nd Deputy Chief of HNDGS Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymousis and other service agencies.
The cooperation between NDF and Nafplio Municipality is implemented in order:
a. to serve objectives of general interest, based on the strategic planning of both parties and, particularly, to cover the need for a financial growth in the wider region of Nafplio Municipality, through the improvement of the quality of living for its residents and to bring an increase of the locally produced income, through the creation of new employment posts, in conjunction with financial and other benefits for both the Municipality of Nafplio and the National Defence Fund, as strategic partners.
b. to establish a synergy between two key services of the State (Armed Forces – Local Government), in relation to the utilization of the existing property of the NDF in Nafplio Municipality, in particular the utilization of a 160 sq km which will be released by “ZISIMOPOULOU” Camp.
The urban planning will be performed by the Municipality of Nafplio, in a close cooperation with the NDF and has been scheduled to be completed within three (3) years from the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation and Understanding.
Following a relevant decision made by the Administrative Committee of the NDF, the Municipality will be granted immediately approximately thirty sq km for the creation of school buildings. This area, according to the plan, will be included in the total percentage which will be granted to the Municipality of Nafplio after the procedure will be completed.
After the end of the urban planning, the Fund will be granted approximately 50% of an area of 160 sq km in blocks under specific terms for the use of land and for building. The rest of the area will be given to the Municipality, as a contribution in land and money, according to the provisions of the legislation related to urban planning of areas.
